Hey, a lot of grown-up type stuff has been calling me away from the strip. It’s not gone. Not by a long shot. We’ll be back on Monday, January 19. For reals this time!

Update 1/4/2009: There’s nothing like standing naked in front of a mirror first thing in the morning! For a site that I’ve only sent out to friends and haven’t made public, I’m surprised by the amount of “Never liked your work” votes. Though, admittably, how much of that stems from the fact I poked at Obama voters right out of the gate? Still, that’s enough to start the week out depressingly.

Got this one up early. Here’s to telling 2008 to fuck off! Have a great night, kids.
Got that first one done…
I’m not going to comment too often on the new series, but I think it’s worth mentioning that it’s pretty clear I forgot how to draw Shirley in 3/4 profile there in panel two. I got smart and dug out the old model sheets by the time I sketched out panel three.
Not reintroducing the characters was a conscious decision on my part. Since this is a soft-launch and more of an exercise for me, it wasn’t very interesting to do introduction strips. Maybe I’ll retcon this later if I take the strip beyond the blog format again, but for right now it was much more interesting to dive right back into the old banter.
It felt good. This strip could be inserted next to almost any of the original run. This might work.

We’re back!
For those of you who still remember an obscure little unfortunately-named college press strip, “Shoot Me Now,” get ready to change your sweatpants and take a break (albeit briefly) from pretending you’re a female elf on World of Warcraft: we’re back, baby!
That’s right, Chuck Block and everyone else are back to take on a world that’s continued to go down the crapper since we took our extended break. But this is not “Shoot Me Now” — this is “Mud Lake.” What’s the difference? Most likely absolutely nothing other than not having to be beholden to previous continuity (Chuck Block did die at the end of the original 1999-2003 run).
What “Mud Lake” isn’t, however, is a redo of the original run. While looking back with older eyes, there are certainly sections that I wish I had handled better or avoided all together. But I’m also proud of so much that was achieved during those years and I wouldn’t change that for anything.
We’re starting from scratch and that’s a little exciting. Hope you find something you like.
There are those people out, using their gifts to save the world. And then there’s us: cluttering the internet just a little more every day.
